Marisa mccorkle (19) used Adderall for two years. “We use it for various reasons,” he says, “and tests, it helps me in testing. [And] helps me stay awake, and [to] study.”
It seems like a miracle drug. Adderall – an amphetamine used to treat ADHD. But studies show that they are abused more and more. “In a way that the athletes have used steroids and other drugs in the past for sports performance, Adderall is used for a kind of pseudo-improving academic performance», said Heather Hayes, a licensed professional counselor.
Adderall - can it ruin your life?
One of the biggest problems with the use of drugs for recreational purposes is that most adolescents are not aware of the risks. Twenty years “Dave”, a student, says: “I think it is quite safe, if not taken five at a time.”
But experts say, even in small doses, the risks of taking Adderall can range from headaches, insomnia and increased heart rate at things much worse. “Everyone has the potential to be an amphetamine an amphetamine psychosis,” Hayes warns. “So if you have a lot of amphetamines and can not sleep, you literally hallucinating. … [U], will surely become a reality and let ourselves and paranoia.”
Hayes said parents needed about the risks of taking Adderall clearly adolescents. Otherwise, we continue to believe that it is a cheap and readily available drug that helps them study. Marisa and Dave are examples of students with this belief. “I am free, but I know people will pay … perhaps two to five U.S. dollars [per pill]», says Marisa.
“In fact, to go to my doctor and, uh, try a recipe for the next six months,” says Dave, “because I think it is a very effective way to achieve good results. I do not believe that it was difficult to, uh, fake with ADD. ”
But others say Adderall fools you – just seems to help their children study. Amanda Mattison, 17, has first-hand what can happen. “[Students taking Adderall], where they can focus, and CRAM and study for five or six hours and it is good to go for tests,” he says, “but by the time rolls around the tests, or are worn lost … or is the result. ”
“Substance,” says Hayes, “Adderall is a drug as dangerous as uncontrolled by any other drugs. It is dangerous and addictive.”
