Today, prior to his important speach on the economy, President Obama took a moment to honour Eckert. Fifty people tragically lost their lives last night (Thursday 12th Feb 09) when a Continental commuter flight from Newark, New Jersey crashed when approaching Buffalo airport. One of those victims was Beverly Ecker, a widow whose husband died in 9/11. She was at the whitehouse only last week with Obama as part of a meeting with relatives from the 2001 terrorist attacks. Today he said that Eckert was an inspiration, and that he hoped her family would find comfort in her strong actions.
