Have you heard about all the scorching rant by Christian Bale, who was clearly angry at Shane Hurlbut, the director of photography for “Terminator Salvation”? Obviously someone in the audio department of the film decided that the famous actor tantrum grave must be heard by the world … that is why it landed not long ago in tmZ.
And … wow, is he crazy.
You can hear it here, but please do not go there if you are offended by vulgar language or if you’re a big fan of the guy and do not want your emotions shaken.
Why the vicious tantrum? Essentially, Hurlbut (who worked with “Terminator Salvation” director McG on “We Are Marshall”) walked through the sight line during a scene Bale. That is a big no-no and nobody Hurlbut with two decades of experience in film should be very aware of it.
“I’m not coming back if you’re still employed!” Bale barks at one point during thethree minutes (the film site can not be heard during the bombing – the audio is clear of all or microphone near Bale).
I’m not sure anyone will be surprised at the eruption, except maybe for life. Bale is known as an actor and a man (did you see what he did to himself for “The Machinist”?) And his character has been a problem before, at least if you believe his mother and sister and their own behavior last year. (Never met the man I spoke with him by phone, but it was a short interview and not very revealing, but I am a big fan of his work, especially in “hard Times,” “The Prestige” and “3: 10 to Yuma “).
There are a lot of pressure to make an important and successful of any project as dark and intense as the “Salvation” can be cast in some places quite nervous. However, it is difficult to hear this rant and think of man as a healthy, mature adult. The bottom line? Bale certainly not winning friends in the industry by wildly insulting a professional front of a crowd. But it is equally true that while Bale is still the famous face in all the posters of the movie, people put up with abuse.
