Researchers have identified the Concord Academy student who sadly passed away yesterday after they found her unconscious in an icy stream after leaving a nearby house party.

“They leave everything behind early to a loving family,” read a statement from the family of Elizabeth Mun of Wellesley, to the Associated Press.

An autopsy is planned for the cause of death, a spokesman for the Essex County district attorney’s office said. Officials refused to comment on whether drinking was involved.
Elizabeth Mun, a 16-year-old from Wellesley, was found face down in a partially frozen stream Andover early Sunday morning after leaving an all-night party on foot. She was killed by cold yesterday afternoon at a Boston hospital.

Mun had participated in her school’s theater program and played on the field hockey team, according to Concord Academy website.

Mun abruptly left the party around 5 pm, and partygoers told police they soon began to look for her. When they were unable to find her, they contact the police, who began a search shortly before 7 pm

When they found her on the other side of a pond near the house, she was given CPR but was responding, authorities said. She was treated at a Lawrence hospital before being flown by helicopter to Boston.

According to Mun family, the teenager enjoyed traveling with her family and had different interests, such as hockey, lacrosse, golf, figure skating and photography. Mun hoped to follow in the footsteps of her mother and attend Brown University, the family statement said, according to the Associated Press.

In a statement last night, Pam Safford, associate head of enrollment and planning at Concord Academy, Mun described as “an independent thinker with a finely tuned sense of humor” and said the school was mourning its loss.

In October, a Plainville teenager drowned in a swamp after walking away from an underage drinking party in the woods.
