Institute for Human Continuity Releases Disturbing Report

The Institute for Human Continuity kaliforneziko MP praises for Planet X Forsight as Near Earth Objects preparedness is the key to the survival of humankind.

The Institute for Human Security released a statement on 30 January 2009, which says it wants IHC Dana Rohrbacher (R – CA) for the import of Congress HR 4917, the NEO Preparedness Act, which if passed will be a branch of the Near in potentially hazardous ready-Earth Objects.

The Sky is Falling: The deadly threat of Near Earth Objects and what we can do about it
By Rep. Dana Rohrabacher

Washington, 21 July 2008 – On 14 June 2002, the Earth closely avoid a fatal event. One that might have disastrous consequences for the progress of humanity.

The close call came and went, and for three days no one noticed that the day of a football field-sized asteroid maintenance by 6.2 km per second, came within 75,000 miles of Earth touching.

Three days later, the asteroid was discovered, but, of course, by that time it was too late. If the asteroid hit the Earth, the destruction could combine the 1908 Tunguska event, an asteroid or comet that flattened more than 80 million trees in a remote region of Siberia. .

The variety of bodies orbiting the sun beginning from the early solar system. They vary in size from small dust particles around a medium-sized giant planet. For most of these objects stay within two broad bands orbiting the solar system and many other less predictable paths. Some take them to the planets as the earth deserve their designation as Near Earth Objects, or Neo.

These celestial objects are not new to most Americans. Like many children, summer the fields to see the Perseid and Leonid meteor shower mark along the heaven and the new generation was introduced in New adjustments through various films, like Armageddon Deep Impact.

However, it is vital for us to realize this is not just for the movies or science fiction. The threat of an asteroid hit the earth is a serious issue. It is well documented that the Earth the Moon and other planetary bodies in our solar system are covered with impact craters. Most people have heard about the dinosaur extinction theory and perhaps seen pictures of the meteor crater in Arizona. But the possibility of a new striking the Earth and cause a global catastrophe, how it may sound difficult to understand even a threat computerization.

During my tenure as chairman of the House Subcommittee on Space and Aeronautics, New was one of my main priorities. I was constantly surprised by the absolute lack of preparedness to detect and defend against such objects.

As a result, a number of pieces of legislation to facilitate the detection NEOS. In 2005, I have written HR 1023, the “Pete Conrad Bill”, which the House of Representatives, but unfortunately not by the Senate.

The bill is a tribute to astronaut Pete Conrad for their huge contribution to our country and the global aerospace community the last four decades. Conrad explained the American spirit as a pilot, explorer and entrepreneur of the highest level, but is best remembered for Commander of Apollo XII, where the third man in the moon walk.

The description of the historic moon landings will always be part of American history. The Pete Conrad bill was honored with an annual prize for future astronomers asteroid discoveries to his name.

During the current session of Congress, will be introduced HR 4917, the NEO Preparedness Act, which, if successful, the Bureau of potentially hazardous Near Earth Objects preparedness. The office would coordinate with other agencies a plan ready in case of conflict NEW detected.

I have also increased funding for the continued operation of Arecibo Observatory in Puerto Rico because of the unique planetary radio astronomy and radar capabilities of the mechanism is the most powerful in the world to watch NEW.

To date the measure is limited to this threat. I am strongly in favor of a joint venture of NASA and the Jet Propulsion Laboratory for the detection of NEOS called “safeguards.” JPL classified map and the jobs of almost 90% of known NEOS more than one kilometer in diameter, but gaps remain.

It is almost impossible with ground-glass-based telescopes to detect asteroids in daylight, and our ability to timely issue in NEW. This is a huge business in the United States can not address the serious challenges without international cooperation.

If we continue to cooperate with the international community on the International Space Station, we also work with the Russian and European allies on our ability to detect NEOS. The numbers tell us this is an attempt, we will not be able to us. JPL’s recent efforts to list 90% of NEW over 140 meters in 2020, has yet to begin, and then you will not find objects the size of the Tunguska event.

Most worrying, New often only days before or after passage through the Earth. For this heroic task, the data should be allocated in consultation with other countries wishing to use their own resources for analyzing the data collected. In addition, RB 70, a Russian radar and observation, but less powerful than Arecibo can also help in discovering the New.

If you look asteroids from the standpoint of our national goals in space, is not only a threat, but also unique opportunities for research. In terms of pure science, asteroids are geological time capsules from the time our solar system, when established, consisting of an orbit around the mining of metals, minerals and other resources that could be used for the construction of large structures in space transport material from Earth.

Until now, NASA has successfully represented hundreds of asteroids only a fraction of the total population of asteroids and near earth objects. The time is now to begin NEW fully and prepare for the global threat of their potential before it is too late.
