Maria Elena Holly says it will be the 50th anniversary of her husband Buddy of the death of a tribute concert at the Surf Ballroom in Clear Lake, Iowa.
The Surf was the last before the place where Holly played himself and his fellow rock ‘n’ roll icons Ritchie Valens and JP “The Big Bopper” Richardson were killed in a plane crash on their way to their next appearance on February 2, 1959. Deaths immortalized in the song “American Pie”, which refers to the date when the tragedy happened as the day the music died. ”

Holly said the widow of the Minneapolis Star Tribune, which is scheduled to participate in a concert held Monday night feature performances by Tommy Allsup – who was on tour in 1959 with Buddy Holly, Valens and Richardson – and Bobby Vee.
“Buddy celebration of music, this is what I’m here,” Maria Elena Holly said the Star Tribune. “I actually have a bittersweet feeling because of course you can not stop thinking that is what happened. But if we see all the fans here in 2000 people in the surf, dance and enjoy themselves knowing that in my mind, that this is what happened. ”
Holly said it was important for the late music man “and enjoy.”
