Stephanee Smith of the Madison County state’s attorney’s office said Terry Sedlacek  has been charged with first degree murder and aggravated battery.

Sedlacek is accused of killing the Rev. Fred Winters, who was shot during his sermon at the First Baptist Church expansion in Maryville. Smith said Sedlacek is also accused of wounding two parishioners who struggled to beat him after he allegedly pulled a knife.

Judge Ann Callis on Monday also ordered Sedlacek held without bail. Remains hospitalized in St. Louis with self-inflicted knife wounds.

One of the parishioners also remains hospitalized in serious condition.
